One of the greatest batsmen on behalf of the Indian cricket team, Rohit Sharma has announced his retirement from the test format of the game. A few minutes back, he issued an official communication on social media, saying he will no longer be a part of the Indian test team.
“Hello everyone I would just like to share that I am retiring from Test cricket. It’s been an absolute honour to represent my country in whites. Thank you for all the love and support over the years. I will continue to represent India in the ODI format.” Rohit wrote in his retirement post.
Earlier, Rohit Sharma had retired from the T20 format as well after having won the T20 World Cup. Now the decision to retire from the test format has also been made and this comes just before the upcoming test series against England, which is going to be a challenging one.
In reality, Rohit Sharma had been struggling with his form in test match cricket, and this was exposed in the series against Australia where he was benched for the last game. However, he was not given the opportunity to redeem himself, and possibly have a farewell test series.
In what has been a start-stop test career, Rohit Sharma had scored 4301 runs with a high score of 212. He had been rather consistent in the test format, which eventually led to his retirement now.
