Gone are the days when big-ticket Telugu films used to have Telugu-speaking actresses in the lady lead roles. Of late, Bollywood actresses are being roped in for Telugu A-listers, which feature top stars.
In the past couple of years, Kiara Advani and Shraddha Kapoor are amongst the noted Bollywood beauties who acted in straight Telugu films. Kiara played female lead in Mahesh Babu’s ‘Bharath Ane Nenu’, and Shraddha played Prabhas’s love interest in ‘Saaho’.
If we take a look at the recent trends, Bollywood beauties have become a new requisite for Telugu biggies.
Speaking of which, Ananya Panday, Jacqueline Fernandes, and Deepika Padukone will be making their debuts down South soon. Ananya will be seen in Vijay Deverakonda’s ‘Fighter’, while Jacqueline and Deepika will be seen in Pawan Kalyan-Krish film, and Prabhas21 respectively.
A while back, casting a noted Bollywood beauty in a Telugu film was a rarity, owing to the financial demands of the actresses. But that is not the case now as we see a Bollywood actress being roped in for every other Telugu biggie.
It appears to be that roping in a noted Bollywood actress has become a go-to option for makers of Telugu biggies. Especially so, if the film is being given a pan-India release. This can come as a big blow to native Telugu actresses who aspire to make it big in Tollywood.
