Rising fuel price is a raging issue in India. The fuel prices even touched Rs 100 in some areas and in addition to the hike in petrol and diesel prices, the Centre has also hiked the price of cooking gas.
In this context, Kerala BJP leader Kummanam Rajashekharan made a sensational announcement ahead of Assembly elections in Kerala. He said that BJP will include petrol and diesel in the GST ambit and bring fuel prices down to Rs 60 per litre if they come to power.
He also asked the Kerala state government why they did not demand the inclusion of petroleum products under GST.
The Centre had already clarified that fuel can be included under GST if the states asked. Assam government had curbed the state’s share of fuel tax. So, why can’t Kerala do the same, Kummanam said.
In states like Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh, the price of a litre of petrol has already crossed the Rs 100 mark because of high VAT. Opposition parties have been criticizing the Narendra Modi government for rising fuel prices.
