The Bharatiya Janata Party first surprised everyone with its victory in the Dubbaka by-elections. Following that surprise victory, the BJP campaigned religiously for the GHMC elections, and even released their manifesto in great style.
With the exit poll predictions coming out slowly, it is quite clear that the BJP is set to win a good amount of Corporation seats in the GHMC elections. The exit poll predictions suggest that the BJP might win 25-30 seats, while the TRS might win 75-90 seats. And while these are not bad numbers, the TRS certainly has a lot to lose, and the BJP has a lot to gain.
If the BJP wins 25-30 seats, it would be a major win for them, making them a direct threat for the TRS in the next general elections. The Telangana Rashtra Samithi has enjoyed an unparalleled popularity in the state until now, and the lack of a majority in these GHMC elections is a major blow to the ruling party, right after the loss they faced in Dubbaka.
The BJP is also making plans to increase its popularity in the state, after the final results are announced, and is also looking to expand further down South, with the grand victory in Hyderabad. If the BJP continues to go at this pace, it would be no wonder if they win in the next elections as well.
