The increasing Covid-19 cases and deaths worrying the nation and people across India are eagerly waiting for their turn to get vaccinated against the deadly virus. There is no denying that many state governments in the country are signalling a shortage of vaccine.
Amid these challenging times, the Centre has given nod to the production of Covaxin, an indigenous vaccine manufactured by Bharat Biotech, at Bulandshar plant of Bharat Immunologicals and Biologicals Corporation Limited (BIBCOL) at Uttar Pradesh. The company will manufacture 2 crore doses of Covaxin every month.
The Bharat Biotech and BIBCOL have signed an MoU for the production of the vaccine. The Centre will provide Rs 30 crore financial aid for the production of Covaxin.
For the unversed, Bharat Immunologicals and Biologicals Corporation Limited is a PSU of the government. Established in 1989 in Bulandshahar, the firm manufactures oral polio vaccines and other immunizers.
