Bharat Biotech’s Covaxin has finally got a nod from the World Health Organization. The vaccine on Wednesday has been granted an emergency use listing, or EUL, which means other countries will finally recognise it.
Indians who received the Covaxin shot need not face restrictions when travelling abroad.
“WHO has granted emergency use listing (EUL) to #COVAXIN (developed by Bharat Biotech), adding to a growing portfolio of vaccines validated by WHO for the prevention of Covid-19,” the UN health body said in a tweet.
Speaking about the same, Niti Aayog member and chief of the country’s Covid Task Force VK Paul said that the WHO approval of Covaxin was a Diwali gift to India.
WHO chief scientist Soumya Swaminathan also congratulated India. On the other side, Dr Krishna Ella, Chairman and Managing Director, Bharat Biotech, said that they have focused on maintaining stringent quality and safety standards that meet rigorous assessment and scientific standards established by WHO.
