A shocking murder inside the house of a retired IPS officer in Hyderabad has raised serious concerns about domestic worker verification and household security. Following the incident, Hyderabad CP V. C. Sajjanar warned citizens to be extremely careful while hiring Nepali maids or domestic workers without proper background checks.
The incident took place at the residence of retired Andhra Pradesh DGP Vinay Ranjan Ray in Hyderabad’s posh Prashasan Nagar area under Jubilee Hills limits. His wife, Tanuja Ranjan, was allegedly killed during a robbery in the early hours of the morning.
According to investigators, the family’s Nepali maid, who had reportedly been working at the house for over a year, is suspected to have coordinated with a Nepali gang to execute the crime. Police believe the accused waited for the right moment and attacked when Tanuja was alone downstairs around 2 am while her husband was away and other family members were upstairs.
During the robbery, the victim’s hands and mouth were allegedly tied. Police suspect she died due to suffocation during the attack. The brutal incident inside the home of a retired senior police officer has shocked the city and triggered fresh debate over domestic worker verification procedures.
CP Sajjanar stressed that families should never hire maids or domestic workers without police verification and proper identity checks. Investigators are also probing possible links to similar gang activities reported in Bengaluru, Mumbai, and Pune, where organized groups allegedly targeted homes using insider access.
Police are continuing their investigation to trace all those involved in the crime.
