Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Jay Shah on Saturday said that the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022, the favourite league of world cricket fans, is going to entertain the fans again in two months. The board is gearing up to start the 15th season of the IPL a little earlier, in March.
Mr Shah signalled that all the franchises wanted the league to take place in India and would do whatever it took to do so, but that the league would have to move abroad once again if Covid did not come under control.
“I am delighted to confirm that the 15th season of the IPL will start in the last week of March and will run until May end. A majority of the team owners expressed their wish that the tournament be held in India,” Shah said.
“BCCI has not compromised on the health and safety of its stakeholders in the past & will concurrently work on Plan B since COVID-19 situation with new variants remains fluid,” he added.
As per a report, the BCCI is reportedly considering limiting the league to Maharashtra. Meanwhile, the IPL 2022 mega auction will be held on February 12 and 13, and the board will take a call on the venues before the auction.
