Story

Children mysteriously start disappearing from a region called Baramulla, and a police officer is assigned to investigate the case. While chasing leads and trying to understand what’s really happening, he unexpectedly discovers that his own daughter has also gone missing.

What exactly is driving these disappearances?
How is the officer’s family connected to this unfolding drama?

The film explores these questions as the investigation grows deeper and darker.

Analysis

Baramulla opens at a slower pace, mainly focusing on mood and terrain. But once the investigation gains momentum, the narrative becomes engaging and the tension holds steadily till the end.

The core idea — blending real political undertones with a fictional mystery thriller — works well. The emotional thread in the final stretch adds weight and brings a solid finishing touch.

However, the writing stumbles in places. Certain character motivations, especially between the father and daughter, lack clear grounding. A key past incident touched through a brief flashback feels underdeveloped. Also, the film only lightly hints at how young minds get influenced in conflict zones; deeper focus here would have made the world more layered and the drama more powerful.

Despite these gaps, the film’s second half works effectively, pulling the viewer in with its emotional intensity and atmospheric tension.

Performances

• Manav Kaul anchors the film with a controlled, impactful performance.
• Bhasha Sumbli fits well into her role and adds emotional depth.
• Supporting actors do their job, though some arcs could have used more exploration.

Technical Departments

• Cinematography: Captures Kashmir’s beauty and unease with good detailing.
• Music/Score: Subtle, enhances the tension without dominating.
• Editing: Picks up pace after the midpoint; a few early portions feel stretched.
• Writing: Strong concept, uneven depth — ideas land, but detailing is inconsistent.

Pros

• Unique premise
• Strong second half
• Good emotional closure
• Convincing atmosphere
• Solid performance by Manav Kaul

Cons

• Slow beginning
• Some character motivations lack clarity
• Important subplot feels abrupt
• Underplayed exploration of youth influence

Bottom Line

Baramulla is a watchable thriller with a powerful idea at its core. It takes time to settle, but once the plot turns sharper, the film delivers engaging drama, solid moments, and an emotionally satisfying finish.
