The ruling YSRCP party in Andhra Pradesh, while fearless when it comes to propaganda, is also subject to failure and a regular need to make sure that it is backed by the people of the state, because of whom the party is in power today. As such, the upcoming Badvel by-polls have become highly crucial for the YSRCP, as these by-polls would now act as a referendum for the YSRCP’s rule in the state.
The Badvel assembly went for a by-poll after the passing of its MLA Dr. Venkata Subbaiah in March this year. A meeting was conducted today, on Thursday, where CM Jagan Mohan Reddy is said to have instructed his party members to conduct a sort of survey to know how much of the people’s favour they have, and to make sure that they win no matter what. Given that the opposition parties haven’t been keeping quiet, and have constantly been talking and highlighting every single shortcoming or the lack of proper action on the part of the ruling party, there are chances that the YSRCP may not win. As a result, YSRCP activists are said to be of the plan to go from household to household and request the people of Badvel to vote for their party without fail. Minister Peddireddy Ramachandra Reddy has been put in charge of the by-election.
In the meeting, Jagan is also said to have told his party members that the party needs to win with 44,000 votes, and with more than 77 per cent, as those are the figures from the last elections. Deputy Chief Minister (minority affairs) Amzad Basha, Panchayat Raj Minister Peddireddy Rama Chandra Reddy, Education Minister Adimulapu Suresh, Agriculture Minister Kurasala Kannababu, Civil Supplies Minister Kodali Venkateswara Rao (Nani), government chief whip Gadikota Srikanth Reddy, and government advisor (public affairs) Sajjala Rama Krishna Reddy are some of the crucial members that attended Jagan’s meeting on Thursday. On the other hand, the YSRCP has announced Dr Sudha, wife of the deceased MLA, as its candidate, while the opposition TDP is repeating its 2019 assembly poll candidate Dr Obulapuram Rajasekhar.
