Pakistan right-hander Babar Azam has dethroned India captain Virat Kohli to become No. 1 batsman in ODI’s. The 26-year-old cricketer has put an end to Indian Skipper’s long reign at the top of the ICC rankings for batsmen on Wednesday.
Azam has become only the fourth batsman from Pakistan to claim the top spot in ICC ODI rankings. He followed compatriots Zaheer Abbas (1983-84), Javed Miandad (1988-89), and Mohammad Yousuf (2003) as the number one batsman in ODI.
This is the first time Virat Kohli has slipped his rank from the No. 1 position since the Indian batsman replaced AB de Villiers at the top in October 2017. With eight more rating points than Kohli, Babar has ended Kohli’s 1,258 day-supremacy.
