Story
Baapu is set in a small town of Telangana and is about a farmer named Mallanna(Brahmaji). He is in neck deep debts and has to repay a chunk of money and the only way out is that his father needs to die to get the insurance money back. In such a deadly situation, what will Mallana do? To know the answers watch the film on the big screen.
What about on screen performances?
Brahmaji is back in the lead role after a very long gap and he is very good as the helpless father.
His age and screen image suit the character so well. He was very good in all the family scenes in the film.
Amani plays the main lead and she was so good. After a long gap, she gets a role where she can showcase her talent and she does in a good way.
Balagam Sudhakar Reddy of Balagam fame is very good and is the main highlight of the film. His screen presence and dialogue delivery is a big plus to the film.
Raccha Ravi, the comedian gets a solid role and he is good in a negative role.
Dhanya Balakrishna plays the female lead and she was also neat in her role. Srinivasa Avasarala was wasted in his role.
What about off screen talents?
The production values of the film are top notch as the village visuals are good.
The music is good and all the songs neatly flow into the narrative without any boredom.
The director Daya had a very good storyline as the film is about harming your own parents for the sake of money.
But the sad part is that the execution is not that great as the pain in the emotions is missing.
The guilt to kill his own father should have been showcased in a more gripping manner but that does not happen.
Baapu has very convenient screenplay and moulds as the director wants. There was so music scope to elevate the drama but that does not happen.
The second half is a bit better when compared to the first and has some decent emotions.
What’s Hot?
- Basic story
- Performances
- Climax
What’s not?
- Continent scenes
- Romantic track
- Boring first half an hour
Verdict
On the whole, Baapu has a great story and decent scenes but if the emotional depth in the film would have been more, the output would have been a lot better. Hence the film ends as just an okay watch.
