Neeraj Chopra has become a star after his historic win at Tokyo Olympics. He bagged India’s first gold in athletics at the marquee event and also became the only second individual gold medallist for the country after shooter Abhinav Bindra.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Friday renamed the Army Sports Institute at Pune after Neeraj Chopra. The Tokyo Olympics gold medallist was presented with a replica of javelin.
“Truly humbled by this recognition, and hope it inspires many more athletes to make our nation proud. Thank you, ASI Pune,” Neeraj wrote on Twitter.
The Defence Minister also felicitated Defence Forces personnel, who participated in the Tokyo Olympics. Among those, who were felicitated were Tarundeep Rai (Archery), Manish Kaushik (Boxing), Amit (Boxing), Satish Kumar (Boxing), CA Kuttappa (Boxing coach), Chotelal Yadav (Boxing coach – Mary Kom’s coach), Pravin Jadhav (Archery), Deepak Punia (Wrestling), Arjun Lal Jat and Arvind Singh (Rowing), Vishnu Saravanan (Sailing) and Neeraj.
