Recently, the President of India, Draupadi Murmu, appointed former Supreme Court judge Justice S Abdul Nazeer as the Governor of Andhra Pradesh.
The current Governor of Andhra Pradesh, Biswa Bhusan Harichandan, has been transferred to Chhattisgarh, as the Governor of that state.
This has caused a lot of controversy in the state. This is because Nazeer retired only last month. He is the one who led the five-judge Constitution Bench which declared that the November 8th, 2016 demonetization decision was not subjected to any illegality even as Justice BV Nagarathna differed.
Nazeer is also part of the bench that allowed the constuction of the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya. The Government of India used this to uphold the judgement as a Muslim judge upheld it.
Apart from that, governor Biswa Bhusan Harichandan was known to be casual with AP CM Jagan, and to have given him a free reign in AP. It is now to be seen if things will be any different.
