The Andhra Pradesh State Election Commissioner, Nimmagadda Prasad, has conducted a meeting recently, in which he has requested all the political parties of the state to take part, to discuss about the upcoming local body elections.
All the opposition parties of the state, especially the TDP, have requested the SEC to cancel the previously released notification, and have requested for a new notification for the local body elections. The other opposition parties include BJP, CPI and several others. TDP AP President Atchannaidu said that there is no security to the SEC itself, and that it is too much to even imagine that the local body elections could go on peacefully. Keeping that in mind, he requested the SEC to conduct the elections with Police security at all times.
Atchannaidu also called out the YSRCP for not attending the meeting, and questioned why the YSRCP is not ready to go ahead with the elections right now, when it was more than ready to go ahead with them when Coronavirus was at its peak in March. Apart from that, the opposition parties have also requested the SEC to conduct investigations into those areas where the ruling party selected candidates unanimously.
The opposition parties also requested the SEC to first observe how the elections were going on in other states that have them scheduled, and then proceed accordingly in the AP, keeping in mind the fact that Coronavirus is still not completely under control in the state.
