YS Raja Sekhar Reddy is often considered one of the successful politicians in AP politics. His transparency, determination in maintaining the balance between the ruling and opposition and the impartial behavior are the most discussed terms in the discussion when the name of this former Chief Minster arrives in the middle of any conversation.
But, it seems like his son, the present Chief Minister of the Andhra Pradesh failed to continue his father’s legacy. It was YS Jagan’s father YS Rajasekhara Reddy revived it in 2007 by lobbying with then Manmohan Singh government at the Centre.
Now, AP Cabinet led by chief minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy on Monday approved a resolution for abolishing the state’s legislative council, which the government feels is a major hurdle for passing crucial bills. The legislative council was first abolished by the NT Rama Rao government in 1985.
Though YSR had some huge majority in the assembly at that time, he took no second thought for the formation of the legislative council and even survived many pressures from the center as he was stuck with some values and democratic principles.
But, The immediate reason for Jagan Mohan Reddy’s decision to abolish the Upper House has come after the TDP stalled his government’s two bills seeking to create three capitals for decentralizing the administration in the council, which is the most controversial in the AP history ever.
