The Andhra Pradesh High Court on Monday stalled the West Godavari district’s Eluru Municipal Corporation elections. The High Court has directed the state Election Commissioner (SEC) Nimmagadda Ramesh Kumar to suspend the polls in Eluru. The HC, hearing a petition filed on the voters’ list, ordered the stay of the polls.
Candidates from all parties campaigned vigorously for victory in the elections. During the final stage of the election campaign, HC’s landmark judgment has pushed the candidates into confusion.
The High Court also heard petitions filed in the MPTC and ZPTC election cases in the state. The Janasena party alleges that threats and forced withdrawals were made during the nomination process last year.
The party secretary Srinivasa Rao has approached the high court seeking an order from the state election commission on the release of the new notification. The court held a final hearing and reserved judgment.
