The AP High Court has given another shock to the Andhra Pradesh government. It is learned that the YSRCP government had decided to deposit cash in the accounts of students’ mothers as part of the Jagannana Vidya Deevena scheme.
However, owners of private colleges have approached the High Court against the decision and the Court ruled in their favour in the past. The government had filed a review petition challenging the verdict and the High Court today struck it down.
Advocate General Shriram appeared on behalf of the government while advocates Matukumilli Vijay and Vedula Venkataramana presented on behalf of the owners of the educational institutions.
The YSRCP government is providing full fee reimbursement to students through the Jagannana Vidya Deevena scheme. In the past, scholarships were credited to the accounts of principals of educational institutions. However, Jagan Govt decided to deposit the money in the account of the mothers of the students. The government said it had decided that parents would have the opportunity to go directly to colleges to pay their fees every three months and inspect their children’s education and facilities at the colleges. But the government insisted that they were not involved if the mothers did not pay the fees.
