The Andhra Pradesh High Court has given its nod to farmers for taking up maha padayatra from Thullur in Guntur district to Tirumala in Chittoor district from November 1 to December 17.
It is known that AP Director general of police Gautam Sawang denied permission to the farmers. However, they approached the court, and the single judge bench has given a green signal to go ahead with their programme. The HC has imposed some conditions as well.
It was suggested that no public meetings should be held during the padayatra. DJs are not allowed to use, the court said. Advised to follow the Covid-19 rules and conduct the trip peacefully.
The court erred in saying that it was difficult to provide protection in the four districts where the padayatra will be taking place. It ruled that peaceful protest, demonstration, marches, and rallies were part of a fundamental right.
High Court directed DGP Goutam Sawang to grant permission by 5:00 p.m. on Saturday to allow farmers for the padayatra.
