The Andhra Pradesh high court on Thursday asked the government how the advisors appointed by the state address political issues? When there are ministers for every department, what is a necessity for advisors to hold reviews with officials? the court asked.
While hearing the Public interest litigation (PIL) that was filed against Nilam Sawhney appointment as State Election Commissioner(SEC), the single justice bench comprising Justice Bhattu Devanand made key remarks on the government advisors.
The bench asked the state to file an affidavit including all the details on the appointments of the government advisors. Government advisors addressing the political meetings didn’t go well with the Court, and the bench asked whether the state is encouraging such meetings.
During the arguments, the HC asked advocate CV Mohan Reddy whether he had seen such formalities with advisors in his tenure as the advocate-General of the State. The HC ordered the government to file an additional affidavit with full details of advisors before posting the next hearing to July 19.
