The Modi government, on Tuesday, exposed the Andhra Pradesh government’s excess loans in the parliament. They said that the AP government has surpassed the permissible loans limit and availed excess loans to the tune of Rs 4,000 crore in violation of FRBM norms.
The Union Minister of State for Finance, Pankaj Chowdhary, responded on this issue in Rajya Sabha today, to the question that was posed by TDP Rajya Sabha member Kanakamedala Ravindra Kumar, who questioned on the loans taken by the AP government. Pankaj Chowdhary said that the AP government was permitted to borrow Rs. 30,305 Crores for the financial year of 2020-21, and was allowed to borrow an additional Rs. 19,192 Crores in 2021 as compensation for the Coronavirus financial crisis.
Furthermore, AP was allowed to borrow a total of Rs. 49, 497 Crores for the year of 2020-21, but breached that limit by borrowing extra Rs. 4,000 Crores. The Union Minister said that the fiscal deficit of AP for 2020-21 is Rs. 54,369 Crores.
