The Andhra Pradesh government has been implementing rather stringent rules when it comes to the sale of liquor in the state, ever since the unlock procedure in India began. Taxes and prices of liquor had been raised by a great margin, which has caused a lot of trouble for alcohol lovers.
Now, in yet another major blow, the Andhra Pradesh government has landed another shock to alcohol lovers, by banning the purchase of liquor from other states. The Andhra Pradesh High Court had previously given an order, stating that 3 bottles of alcohol and 3 bottles of beer could be bought from other states, even the AP government agreed to this. This took place on September 2nd, after the HC gave its verdict, and after GO 411 was brought into effect.
The AP government has now passed a GO, and said that absolutely no liquor can be bought from other states. It has also been stated that severe action would be taken against those who violate this condition, according to the appropriate laws, and that those who violated these laws would be booked under the Andhra Pradesh Excise Act, 1968.
More than 75% of those who consume alcohol in Andhra Pradesh started to buy liquor from other states, after the AP government raised the prices by a huge margin. A lot of problems came into light after that, for the Jagan government, and now, this new rule may turn out to be yet another legal hurdle for the Jagan government.
