The Andhra Pradesh government had demolished the main entrance and a part of the Prahari wall. Many of the security personnel rooms were also demolished in the process. GVMC took up this job, and the demolishing process began early in the morning.
The Gitam University staff say that they were not informed about the demolishing of any part of the constructions, and that it took place all of a sudden. On the other hand, the GVMC officials say that the Gitam University staff was informed much earlier about this. The Gitam staff has also said that none of the officials at the demolition site, from the government, cared to let them know the reason for the demolition.
The beach road which leads to the university has also been closed on both the sides by Police personnel. After getting to know about the demolition, TDP members had rushed to the university.
The Gitam staff has also said that there was no marking done by the government previously, and that they were doing the marking right now. They also said that every necessary document has been submitted to the court, and there will be proper legal action taken.
TDO Penchal Kishore has said that nearly 40 acres of the university has been illegally occupied, and even said that the officials of the university have been made aware of this. He also said that many more buildings will be demolished in the days to come, and that the Gitam staff are very well aware of it.
