The Chief Ministers of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, Y.S.Jagan Mohan Reddy and KCR, share a very close bond and have always spoken well about each other. They also keep doing similar programs in each state, in various respects.
Now, the government of Andhra Pradesh seems to be following Telangana’s example in yet another matter, but this is not the best example for it to be following, as it does no good to either the people or itself. The failure of the YSRCP government is highlighted even more with this latest example.
The Telangana government had announced Telangana Institute of Medical Sciences (TIMS) when Coronavirus had just started in the state. This was to contain 1500 beds, dedicated to the sole treatment of Coronavirus patients. CM KCR had greatly publicised it as well, and said that the government was making this hospital ready in a shorter period of time when compared to the rate at which China readied their hospitals.
A few months later, TIMS is not yet complete and there’s no news about the hospital anymore. No one is discussing about it, and no one knows why it hasn’t been started either. Now, in a similar fashion, the government of Andhra Pradesh had previously announced that it was readying a facility with 1500 beds in Ananthapur, solely for the purpose of treating Coronavirus patients. Extensive publicity had also been done for the same, where CM Jagan had posted pictures of a Bengaluru hospital in place of this one. He was called out for the same as well, by netizens, following which he deleted his tweets.
Now, despite the number of daily cases crossing the mark of 1000 in Ananthapur, the 1500 bed facility has not been opened yet, and no one knows why. Even the government is not talking about it anymore. This is enough to say that the AP government’s 1500 bed facility is another TIMS, in terms of the ambiguity of its opening. Is there any worse way for the AP government to copy Telangana?
