Andhra Pradesh DGP, Gautam Sawang has finally responded to the continuous attacks on Hindu temples in the state, and has made some rather shocking statements. He said that only 44 cases pertaining to attacks on temples were really serious, and the other cases were simply false rumors spreading on social media, for political agendas.
The DGP also said that the police department is working relentlessly to make sure that things are in order, despite the department losing 109 Policemen to Coronavirus, and 14,340 members having tested positive for the virus.
Sawang also directly mentioned Chandrababu naidu in his speech, and said that the ex-Chief Minister of the State is using this as a political opportunity, and is unnecessarily branding the department’s officials based on their caste and religious beliefs, even though every single person is working towards the welfare of the state. Sawang also said that this is the first time that he is seeing such a blatant act of someone trying to manipulate the people based on caste and religion, in his career spanning 34 years.
The DGP also said that the Ramatheertham temple was inspected 3 months ago, and CCTV cameras were installed wherever possible, except on the hill steps, as there is no supply of electricity in that area. He said that electricity is now being provided in this area, and CCTV cameras will be installed at hte hill steps as well.
He also stated that 3,000 cameras were installed in over 13,000 temples, that geo tagging has been given to over 58,871 temples in AP. Over 180 cases have reportedly been registered since September and 347 persons have been arrested in relation to their acts against temples, and seven inter-state gangs were among those arrested.
