Hollywood actress Angelina Jolie has auctioned off a rare painting by former British prime minister Sir Winston Churchill for £7m at auction in London. It was presented to Jolie by her ex-husband Brad Pitt in 2011. At the time, the painting cost was $2.95 million. It is currently being auctioned off for $11.5 million, Rs 85 crore in Indian currency.
The Tower Of The Koutoubia Mosque, painted in Marrakesh during World War Two, was sold to an unknown buyer. It was auctioned first in London in 1943. Brad Pitt gifted it to Angelina Jolie as a gift during the shooting of Inglourious Basterds, a film set in the aftermath of World War II. Brad Pitt purchased the painting from an antique dealer MS Rao. Auctioning that rare painting is currently the talk of the town.
Brad Pitt and Angelina separated in 2016 due to differences in their married life. They have spent years enmeshed in divorce proceedings.
