Andhra Pradesh’s education reforms are gaining worldwide attention after a major study showed big improvements in student learning. Nobel Prize-winning economist Prof. Michael Kremer from the University of Chicago met Andhra Pradesh Education Minister Nara Lokesh to review the results of the state’s Personalised Adaptive Learning (PAL) program.
The study found that students using PAL learned much faster than others. In just 17 months, they gained the same as 1.9 extra years of learning compared to students in non-PAL schools. The progress was strong across all classes, with younger students showing the best results.
Started in 2018 with 60 schools, the PAL program has now grown to 1,224 schools in all 26 districts, covering more than 3.25 lakh students. It is run by the Andhra Pradesh Education Department with support from Central Square Foundation as a strategic partner, and ConveGenius as the technology provider.
Prof. Kremer said that Andhra Pradesh’s example proves how technology and good governance can together improve education outcomes. Experts believe this success gives other Indian states a clear model to follow.
With these results, Andhra Pradesh is now seen as a leader in evidence-based EdTech reforms, setting a global benchmark in improving student learning.
