The Andhra Pradesh government has successfully completed its rescue mission in Nepal. A total of 361 Telugu citizens who were stranded due to political unrest and curfews have returned safely. Among them, 86 pilgrims from Manasarovar reached home on Wednesday evening with a special flight from Kathmandu.
The rescue started on September 9 when hundreds of Telugu people were stuck in different parts of Nepal. On the orders of Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, Minister Nara Lokesh set up a 24×7 control room at Andhra Pradesh Bhavan in New Delhi. He personally monitored the mission from Amaravati, giving regular instructions and speaking directly with the evacuees to give them confidence.
Special flights and multiple routes were used to bring people back, including services from Kathmandu, Nepalganj, Raxaul, and Bhairawa. Even with curfew restrictions, internet shutdowns, and airport delays, all Telugu citizens were safely evacuated. Emergency visas were also given quickly to nine Telugu-origin NRIs who lost their OCI cards during violence in Kathmandu.
Minister Nara Lokesh said the government will always protect Telugu people wherever they are in the world. He skipped public events to focus fully on the rescue and coordinated the operation like a war mission.
This mission was carried out with strong teamwork between the Andhra Pradesh government, Indian Embassy, Ministry of External Affairs, Nepal Army, and Civil Aviation authorities. The operation is being seen as a major example of Andhra Pradesh’s commitment to the safety of its people worldwide.
