The Andhra Cricket Association (ACA) has announced a big step for the future of Andhra cricket. Gary Stead, former New Zealand national coach and one of the world’s top cricket coaches, has been appointed as the new Head Coach of the Andhra Men’s Senior Team.
Stead is famous for guiding New Zealand to the 2021 World Test Championship win and leading the team to several World Cup finals. He also played a key role in New Zealand’s 3-0 Test series win against India last year. With his vast international experience, Stead is expected to bring world-class training and strategy to Andhra players ahead of the 2025–26 domestic season.
ACA officials said the process of bringing Stead on board took over three months of discussions. Honorary President MP Kesineni Sivanath said, “Gary Stead is more than a coach, he builds strong cricket culture. His arrival shows our vision to raise the standards of Andhra cricket.”
Honorary Secretary MP Sana Satheesh Babu added, “Gary’s global experience and values fit perfectly with ACA’s plans to build a strong legacy of performance and discipline.”
Gary Stead said he is excited about the role: “I feel honoured to join Andhra cricket as Head Coach. The passion for the game here is very inspiring. I look forward to working with the players and support staff to create a team that plays with purpose and pride.”
Cricket fans across Andhra Pradesh have welcomed the move, calling it a turning point for the state’s cricket. With Stead’s guidance, many believe Andhra will soon emerge as a strong contender in domestic cricket.
The appointment also supports the vision of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, who has been focused on youth development and creating world-class opportunities for young talent in Andhra Pradesh.
