A group of techies in USA joined forces for Gatham, a thriller made on a small budget. The film premiered on Amazon Prime Video today and here is our take on it.
Story:
Rishi(Rakesh) sustains brain damage following an accident and loses his memory. His girlfriend Aditi(Poojitha) takes care of him all the while. One day, Rishi and Aditi leave to meet the former’s father and their car breaks down in the middle of nowhere. This is when they are kidnapped by Arjun(Bhargava) and are held hostage in a house. What’s the reason behind this mysterious kidnap? Watch the film to know the answer.
How about on-screen performances?
Rakesh, Bhargav, and Poojitha deliver good performances. Bhargav, despite being a newcomer emotes well and shows great promise. Lakshmi Bharadwaj, Harsha and other support cast are reasonably good.
How about off-screen talents?
On the technical front, the film banks on cinematography and sounding. Manoj Reddy’s cinematography is quite impressive. His cinematography goes with the vibe of the proceedings. Sricharan Pakala’s background music elevates a few scenes. Editing by ES is decent. There is some lag in the film but this cannot be associated with editing as it is a result of patchy screenplay.
The director Kiran picks a suspense thriller subject which is rather simple and straight forward. He does succeed in evoking suspense in the opening 20 minutes or so. But the film loses steam once the flashback track takes the center stage. The twists in the film are way too predictable and are incoherent. Kiran succeeds when it comes to making but he falters with the narration.
What’s hot?
Visuals
Sounding
A few intriguing scenes
What’s not?
Same old story
Boring screenplay
Direction
Ineffective thrilling elements
Verdict:
A group of IT professionals in USA have come together for Gatham and their efforts are appreciable. But the film lacks novelty which is a big no-no for suspense thrillers. It ends up as a borefest.
