Amid lockdown, Amazon has launched its online food-delivery services called “Amazon Food” in select pin codes of Bengaluru, when order volumes of the two biggest players in the segment – Swiggy and Zomato – are at an unprecedented low rate because of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Order volumes have markedly reduced during the coutrywide lockdown, which was implemented strictly to curb spreading of the Covid-19 pandemic. The two companies have already suspended more than 1,500 employees to slash maintenance costs and streamline operations.
“Free and contactless delivery, cleanliness guaranteed eateries,” Amazon told its buyers on the application. Almost since an year, Amazon has been doling out with attractive offers to restaurants and lucrative commissions far better than it’s contenders as it planned to propel and go live by Diwali.
We’re launching Amazon Food in specific pin codes in Bengaluru and allow customers to order from handpicked local restaurants and cloud kitchens that pass our high hygiene certification bar,” an Amazon spokesperson said in an email. They claimed, the company ensures to be in concordance with the highest standards of safety to maintain hygiene while having a great experience.
The restaurant industry and other food businesses has been adversely shattered due the nationwide lockdown over the past 60 days. It was estimated that four out of ten restaurants would shut down it’s operations post the lockdown.
