The farmers of Amaravati were badly hit when the YSRCP government took the decision to uproot the capital from Amaravati and announced its 3 capital policy. Ever since then, the farmers of Amaravati have been protesting against the government, and have been doing it for over 500 days now.
In the wake of the YSRCP’s major win in all the districts surrounding Amaravati, in the panchayat, ZPTC and MPTC elections, the YSRCP members are claiming that the people of Amaravati are favouring the government’s 3 capital plan. In order to prove the government wrong, the farmers of Amaravati have planned a 45-day padayatra, which may not be able to solve their problems, but would definitely be able to highlight it.
The padayatra will begin from Tullur in Amaravati, on November 1st, and would end in Tirupati, in time for Sankranthi. The yatra covers over 400 kilometres, with politicians, farmers, farm labourers, civil society leaders and others taking part in it. The Amaravati JAC is organising the yatra and is currently said to be working on the nitty-gritty.
