After the YSRCP government came to power in 2019, it cancelled the GO 41, and issued GO 316 in its place, according to which it is illegal to buy assigned lands from farmers. The farmers of Amaravati went to the AP High Court in the matter, and the HC has offered relief to the farmers by cancelling the government’s GO, according to which the farmers have owned these lands for decades, which is why it is illegal to sell them.
The AP government served notices to all the farmers who sold their lands for commercial and residential projects, stating that the transactions are illegal. The notices also stated that the government would cancel the transactions if proper proofs weren’t submitted and if proper reasons weren’t stated as to why the transactions shouldn’t be cancelled. Farmers of these assigned lands then went to the HC against these notices.
With the case coming to hearing at the HC today, the farmers of these lands have gotten a major relief, with the HC cancelling the GO released by the government, and any further orders pertaining to the GO.
