When Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy announced his 3 capital plan in the AP assembly, the farmers of Amaravati and the people of Andhra Pradesh felt the most betrayed. Ever since then, the farmers of Amaravati have been protesting against the government, demanding that the government withdraw its 3 capital plan.
On November 2nd, the farmers of Amaravati began a padayatra, from Amaravati to Tirupati, named ‘Nyayasthanam to Devasthanam’. Since then, the farmers have faced several problems along the way,f from the government and from the Police department, who have tried to obstruct their padayatra. However, the people of the state have been overwhelmingly supportive of the padayatra, which is aimed towards Jagan and the AP government withdrawing the idea of the 3 capitals.
The farmers are currently placed at Nellore district and are expected to reach Tirupati this week. The organisers of the padayatra sought the stadium belonging to Sri Venkateshwara University (SVU) to hold a huge public meeting on December 16 to mark the completion of the 45-day maha padayatra, but the government has denied the permission. At the same time, in a surprising move, a private individual has given his land along Nayudupeta-Puthalapattu highway adjacent to the Toyota showroom near Tirupathi to conduct a public meeting.
