Andhra Pradesh Education, IT and Electronics Minister Nara Lokesh has announced that Amaravati will soon get India’s largest Central Library. The new Amaravati Central Library will be built on two lakh square feet and designed as a modern world-class hub of knowledge. Lokesh said the project will be completed within one year, making it a landmark for Andhra Pradesh education reforms.
He also directed officials to speed up the regional library at Jagadamba Centre in Visakhapatnam, which will cover 50,000 square feet. Lokesh added that ₹213 crore in cess dues from local bodies must be collected and used for library development. Community programs will be held in libraries to engage students, and all competitive exam books will be made available for aspirants.
Highlighting the success of government libraries, Lokesh said 350 students who prepared in them secured constable jobs this year. A large campaign will soon be launched to promote the benefits of libraries. He also announced that the DSC teacher recruitment drive will now be conducted every year to ensure timely recruitment of teachers.
The Minister stressed that reforms in government schools should focus on better learning outcomes. He said Andhra Pradesh currently ranks 14th nationally in Foundational Literacy and Numeracy (FLN) and called for urgent steps to improve this rank. Lokesh added that every child must get guaranteed literacy as a right under the state’s education reforms.
Lokesh further announced the release of ₹325 crore under the final phase of the ‘Talli Ki Vandanam’ scheme and directed officials to release the 2024–25 Fee Reimbursement funds without delay. He also instructed authorities to acquire land for new Jawahar Navodaya and Kendriya Vidyalayas with the help of donors.
Emphasizing public participation, Lokesh urged philanthropists and corporates to adopt schools and support infrastructure development. A special website will be launched to connect donors with government schools. He also directed officials to set up modern Science Centres in Anantapur, Nellore, Eluru, Kadapa, and Chittoor, and to complete 125 new Autism Centres in Andhra Pradesh within one year.
