The current YSRCP government of Andhra Pradesh has been against Amaravati as the capital of AP ever since they came to power in 2019. They made this sentiment public towards the end of 2019, when CM Jagan announced in the AP assembly, his 3 capital plan. Slowly and gradually, the AP government is undoing everything that the TDP government did during its regime.
The latest undoing is that of the Kuchipudi Iconic Bridge, which the AP government is all set to demolish. This bridge was conceptualised with the idea of connecting Amaravati to the Vijayawada-Hyderabad Highway, by the then Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, at a cost of Rs. 1,387 cores.
L&T even laid platforms for the construction of this cable bridge, which was designed to have a 170-metre-tall pylon and to be 3.2 KM long with six-lane roads. The L&T stopped all construction on the bridge after the Jagan government came to power in 2019.
The Jagan government scrapped this entire project and planned a simple bridge at the cost of Rs. 400 crores and the AP government has right now deployed Proclaimers to demolish the platforms laid by L&T, for the construction of the bridge.
