A shocking incident from Hyderabad has triggered outrage after a 17-year-old Dalit intermediate student died allegedly following humiliation by lecturers at a government junior college. The incident took place at the Government Junior College in West Marredpally, Secunderabad, where the student, a first-year intermediate student from Malkajgiri, was reportedly denied entry into the classroom for arriving late.
According to the family and fellow students, when the girl explained that she was late due to a menstrual health issue, the lecturers allegedly behaved insensitively and made humiliating remarks, questioning her claim in an offensive manner. Witnesses say the incident deeply affected the student mentally. After returning home from college, she reportedly collapsed suddenly.
The family rushed her to a hospital, where doctors declared her dead and stated that the cause of death was a blood clot in the brain. The tragic death has sparked serious concerns over the mental harassment faced by students and the lack of sensitivity in educational institutions, especially towards young girls and students from marginalised communities.
Following the incident, tension prevailed outside the college premises as students, family members, and local residents staged protests demanding strict action against those responsible. Protesters alleged institutional negligence and demanded justice for the deceased student, calling for accountability and systemic reforms to ensure student safety and dignity in government colleges.
The incident has once again raised urgent questions about gender sensitivity, caste-based discrimination, and mental health support within educational institutions in Telangana.
