A woman identified as Priyanka, originally from West Bengal, has been arrested by police in Rajasthan in connection with an alleged honeytrap and extortion case involving a local lawyer. According to investigators, Priyanka had earlier worked at a spa in Balotra before moving to Barmer, where she reportedly met advocate Prem Kumar at a gym. The two are said to have developed a personal relationship over time.
Police allege that during the relationship, Priyanka secretly recorded private videos using a hidden camera and later demanded ₹40 lakh from the lawyer, threatening to make the footage public. Distressed by the alleged blackmail, the lawyer approached the police and filed a formal complaint. Following a preliminary investigation, authorities registered a case, detained the woman, and placed her under arrest. Officials say further inquiry is underway to determine whether others were involved and to examine the digital evidence seized.
The incident has once again drawn attention to the growing problem of digital blackmail and honeytrap cases, where personal relationships are allegedly misused for financial extortion. Legal experts note that such crimes can cause severe emotional and psychological distress to victims, and stress the need for swift investigation, strong cyber laws, and public awareness about online and offline safety. Police have urged citizens to report any form of blackmail immediately and assured that action will be taken strictly as per law.
