It is known that microblogging platform Twitter has been charging users for the verified blue tick badges. This came under a lot of scrutiny at first but has become a norm now.
Cut to now, Facebook and Instagram’s parent company has announced that they’re bringing Twitter-like pricing model for Facebook. From here on, Facebook verified badged will be costing users $14.99 on iOS and $11.99 on web.
Describing the move, Meta’s CEO Mark Zuckerberg said “The subscription service that lets you verify your account with a government ID, get a blue badge, get extra impersonation protection against accounts claiming to be you, and get direct access to customer support.”
This will first be rolled out to users in Australia and New Zealand. It will be enforced for all users in the coming weeks.
