Ahead of the Twenty20 World Cup, the fans of AB de Villiers hoped that the former Proteas captain would return to the game that is scheduled to take place in India later this year.
After the 37-year-old cricketer dropped several hints over the last few months of doing an international comeback in the white-ball formats, Cricket South Africa said in a statement that AB de Villiers will not be returning to play for South Africa in the 2021 T20 World Cup.
“Discussions with AB de Villiers have concluded with the batsman deciding once and for all, that his retirement will remain final,” Cricket South Africa said in its statement.
AB de Villiers retired from international cricket in 2018. Although he retired from the global game, De Villiers continues to play franchise cricket and has continued to impress for Royal Challengers Bangalore in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
AB de Villiers played 114 Tests, 228 ODIs and 78 T20 Internationals (T20Is) for South Africa.
