Telangana finance minister T Harish Rao has allotted Rs. 2,500 Crores for the expansion of the Hyderabad Metro Rail, to Old City and to the Hyderabad Airport as well. While Rs. 1,500 Crores were allotted to the expansion of metro on the whole, Rs. 500 Crore each has been allotted to the expansion of the metro to Old City and RGIA.
Harish Rao presented this as part of the budget session for the year of 2023-24, at the Telangana assembly today. He said that it is important for the metro services to be expanded to the airport, given that the number of air travellers are increasing very rapidly. The expansion facilities at the airport have already begun, at a cost of Rs. 7,500 Crores, to meet the requirements of increasing air traffic, and to facilitate 4 Crores passengers easily. Harish Rao said the expansion facilities will be completed by June this year.
On the other hand, CM KCR recently laid the foundation for metro connectivity to the airport. The service will start from the Raidurg metro station and go up to the airport. This project has been taken up at a cost of Rs. 6,250 Crores with own resources of the State government and will be completed within the next three years.
