A Telugite researcher from Hyderabad settled in America claimed to have found a way to curb covid-19 virus. Dr Thirumala Devi Kanneganti along with her research team from St Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Memphis, US, found to have perceived a potential mechanism of how Covid-19 causes death in people and also method to eradicate it.
Dr Thirumala Devi Kanneganti, vice-chair of St Jude Immunology, had done an extensive research on the same which was published in the peer-reviewed prestigious journal Cell on November 18. She completed her Masters and PhD in microbiology and immunology affiliated to Osmania University.
The research notified that majority of Covid-19 deaths occurred due to inflammation, which causes swelling of lungs, causing difficulty in breathing. In their in-depth study, immunologists from St Jude, affirmed they discovered a potential method to control this life-threatening inflammation, lung damage and organ failure among Covid-19 patients.
Scientists from St Jude hospital identified drugs after discovering in preliminary trial in mice that the hyper-inflammatory immune response related to Covid-19 causes tissue damage and multi-organ failure by triggering inflammatory cell death pathways.
They found that cytokines, the proteins which are released during the inflammation response form like a ‘cytokine storm’ and eventually trigger cell death and then the patients’ death. The report says that already existing drugs that impede ‘cytokine storm’ and sepsis can be used to treat covid death.
