A dalit farmer Byagari Narasimhulu’s suicide in Veluru village in Warangal mandal has sparked uproar in public. The death of this farmer on Thursday has thereby erupted a political row in Telangana as it fell underGajwel constituency, represented by chief minister KCR.
Reportedly, he had been harassed by local administration officials who commanded to surrender his hard earned land for a Rythu Vedika (farmers’ forum) construction. Later his land details were also not entered in the records by indirectly compelling him to end his life. Narasimhulu drank harmful pesticide in his farm on Wednesday out of distress. His pic while drinking is going viral on social media. He was rushed to the Gajwel Government Hospital and then to the Siddipet Government Hospital, where he died in the early hours of Thursday.
Villagers accused that 13 guntas of land owned by the deceased farmer were attempted for encroachment by local officials and made him dispossessed. While opposition leaders from BJP began mudslinging and criticised CM and called it as a ‘murder’ by ruling party.
Congress leaders too demanded justice by claiming that the people who are responsible for the farmer’s death be arrested under prevention of atrocities for act for SC and ST. After the incident came to light, Minister T Harish Rao decided to extend help to bereaved family. He met them on Thursday and assured them an acre of land as ex gratia compensation.
