The tragic incident of Atul Subhash has been shaking the nation from the last few days with various protests all over. Save Indian Family Foundation (SIFF) have been actively protesting in response to the tragic suicide of Atul Subhash, highlighting issues related to men’s rights and the implications of divorce and alimony laws in India.
SIFF organized protests in various locations, demanding justice for Atul Subhash. They assert that his suicide was a consequence of systemic issues related to divorce and alimony disputes, which they believe disproportionately affect men. SIFF have described Atul as being treated unfairly in his marriage, land is seen merely as a financial provider.
Atul Subhash reportedly faced immense pressure due to a legal battle over alimony, where a Court ruling suggested a settlement amount of Rs 5 crore from him to his wife. The court emphasized factors such as the standard of living during marriage and the financial capacity of both parties when determining alimony.
The Supreme Court’s ruling in this case has sparked discussions about the need for reform in family law, particularly concerning how alimony is calculated and the long-term financial obligations imposed on men post-divorce. SIFF argues that current laws can lead to severe emotional and financial distress for men, contributing to tragic outcomes like Subhash’s suicide.
SIFF has conducted a press meet at Bangalore yesterday and talked about the issues. The founders of SIFF Mr Anil Kumar, Mr Katri & Lawyer Manjunath SIFF legal head released a press notes addressing the systemic issues and the changes needed to raise awareness about men’s rights and necessary changes to support those facing similar challenges in family law contexts.
