MUMBAI: As Covid-19 situation worsened in Maharashtra topping the country’s Covid-19 graph amid second wave, a decision to enforce a short lockdown in the state was taken at a meeting comprising political leaders from MVA alliance and BJP and other high rank officials, which was chaired by chief minister Uddhav Thackeray on Saturday.
Few of the below mentioned things are allowed during Maharastra’s lockdown
• Movement for valid reasons and essential services
• Students for exams
• Travel to vaccination centres
• Buses, taxis, autos etc for emergency and important services
• Migrants can return home
The lockdown will not be as strict as it was last year, but only food manufacturing units along with medical diagnostic kits, pharmaceutical industries and supply chains would be permitted to function.
“This is a health emergency and so priority should be given to get citizens. The situation is grim and imposing lockdown became necessary to contain the spread”, said Chief minister.
While opposition leaders demanded that the government should come up with a workable plan for providing greater safety and losses that may incur to small business owners and poor people. Leader of opposition Fadnavis urged relief package to be given by the centre before imposing lockdown. He iterated that medicines, oxygen supply and health infrastructure must be improved not only in city but also in rural areas.
