The whole of Mumbai is currently experiencing an electricity blackout, which is said to be because of the TATA’s incoming electric supply failure. Nothing in the city now has electric supply, except for the stock exchange and the Mumbai airport.
Traffic signals too, in some areas, have no power supply, and the Western and Central railways have also been affected because of this blackout. This is the first time in history that the financial capital of India is facing such a failure in the supply of electricity. The interruption was first caused at 10:05 AM, and ever since then, the concerned authorities have been reassuring the people of Mumbai that the power would be back in the next 45 minutes. However, Mumbai is still in a blackout, and the power is still expected to be back very soon.
Maharashtra Energy Minister Nitin Raut took to his Twitter account and said that the electric supply would be back in an hour, at 11:35 AM. He even stated that the blackout was because the Kalwa- padgha transmissions line got tripped, as a result of which the Thane- Palghar, New Mumbai power is off.
The city’s civic body has asked all the hospitals to make sure that there was enough diesel to make sure that there is enough power supply to the ICUs. On the other hand, the western railways and central railways resumed within 45 minutes of the power outage.
Many people took to Twitter as soon as the power outage began, including celebrities. Bollywood actor Amitabh Bachchan Tweeted “Entire city in power outage .. somehow managing this message .. keep calm all shall be well”.
