With a sudden spike in the cases all over, Chandigarh administration has pulled up the socks to take strict measures to contain the virus transmission. The UT administration recently had made it mandatory for people to wear masks in public places to keep tab of corona spread.
As per the order and instructions issued on Thursday evening, any violators will be punishable under Section 188 of the IPC. The police authorities have been given all rights to arrest the violators at once.
Chief Minister Amarinder Singh declared on Facebook page,
“Masks are compulsory in Punjab now. Health Secretary is issuing a detailed advisory for the people. Just remember to wear mask when you step out of home for any emergency/essentials. A piece of clean cloth is all you need. Let’s all stay safe and fight #Covid_19 together,” Singh posted yesterday.
According to the order, there is no exception to those who travel in personal or office vehicles too. It is made mandatory to wear masks while working at a site, office or workplace. The order also includes, that no individual should attend any meeting or gathering without wearing these.
Punjab has witnessed a dramatic rise in the number of coronavirus cases taking the total number of confirmed cases to 130. The COVID-19 related death cases was reported to be ten, while 18 have been discharged from hospital.
Inspired by the move, the Uttar Pradesh government issued similar orders for all the citizens to wear masks before going outside. While Rajasthan government also made it mandatory on Thursday to wear face masks.
Chief minister Ashok Gehlot instructed the officials through a video conferencing to ensure the compliance of the government’s decision enforced in all 196 urban areas and wholesale markets.
