Bollywood actor-turned-politician Shatrughan Sinha, who has been associated with BJP for about three decades, has met the Congress President Rahul Gandhi and expressed his desire to join the party.
He is likely to fielded from Patna Sahib”, where the BJP has announced Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad as its nominee replacing Shatrughan Sinha.
Sinha is a two-term BJP Lok Sabha member from Patna Sahib Singh constituency.
Since quite some time, Sinha had been critical of the party leadership and prime minister Narendra Modi. He was also indirectly challenging the leadership to take ‘disciplinary action’, if they so dare to by hobnobbing with the Opposition rallies.
But, the BJP leadership had given him the long rope and waited for the appropriate time to teach the actor by denying him the ticket, which obviously force the actor to leave the party. This calculated move by the party leadership was not to allow the actor to play the ‘victim card’ to gain some sympathy from his supporters back home.
Sources in the ‘Mahagathbandhan’ had recently claimed that there was a tug of war between the Congress and RJD over Sinhas candidature as Lalu Prasad’s party, with which the ‘Bihari Babu’ shares cordial relations, was said to be keen on fielding him on its own symbol.
Singh, however, dodged queries about Kirti Azad, another BJP MP who had recently joined the Congress saying he will be contesting elections. From where, it will be decided by the party.
Azad is serving his second consecutive term in the Lok Sabha from Darbhanga and the Congress wants to field him from the seat as the constituency has a large population of Maithil Brahmins its traditional supporters.
RJD has been insisting that it has won the Darbhanga seat many times and would like to contest it again with its senior leader Abdul Bari Siddiqui as its candidate.
