Sharathulu Varthisthai is a 2024 Telugu-language social drama film written and directed by Kumara Swamy. The film has Chaitanya Rao Madadi & Bhoomi Shetty playing the lead roles while Nanda Kishore, Santosh Yadav, Deva Raj Palamuru, Padmavathi, Venkey Monkey, Shiva Kalyan, Mallesh Balast, Sithamahalaxmi, Peddinti Ashok Kumar, Sujatha, Sai, Sujatha Devi, Sowjanya, Guntula Radhika, Sruthi Pallepogu, Nabeel Afridi & others are seen in key supporting roles. The music is composed by Arun Chiluveru & Prince Henry and the film is produced by Sreelatha – Nagarjun Samala, Sharadha – Sreesh Kumar Gunda, Vijaya – Dr. Krishnakanth Chittajallu under Starlight Studios Pvt Ltd banner.

Story:

Chiranjeevi (Chaitanya Rao Madadi) is a small government employee who lives a happy life with his lower-middle-class family. He is in love with Vijaya Shanthi (Bhoomi Shetty) and later marries her. A new company is started in the city that does network/chain marketing business and most of the people living in the locality become members of it along with Chiranjeevi’s mother and wife. Later they come to know that it is a fraud company and a fake business. How will Chiranjeevi fight back with the system when the system takes them for granted forms the rest of the plot.

What about on-screen performances?

Chaitanya Rao Madadi suits the role well and gives out a pretty decent performance as a middle-class guy who takes care of the family. But his look and acting seem to be getting repetitive as we are getting to see him in the same kind of avatar from his web series till now.

Bhoomi Shetty is natural and is convincing in her part as the hero’s wife. Her chemistry with Chaitanya Rao is good coz of the middle-class setup.

Serial actor Nanda Kishore plays an important role as the government officer and he neatly does his supporting part.

Santosh Yadav as the Basti leader Shankar Anna is good in his key role.

Padmavati who plays the hero’s mother does a good job while Nabeel Afridi as the hero’s brother and Sruthi Pallepogu as the hero’s sister fail to leave a mark.

Sai, Venky Monkey, and Shiva Kalyan, who play hero’s friends are ordinary and the rest of the supporting cast are just there.

What about off-screen talents?

The story by Kumara Swamy is decent enough for an entertaining middle-class family drama with a good message for all the middle-class families who fall into the trap of multi-level marketing scams. But the screenplay is poorly written and the way the scenes are treated looks very tedious. The unnecesary subplots and the unconvincing revenge angle towards the end play spoilsport.

Director Kumara Swamy does a passable job with the way he presents the film but his narration is not up to the mark. His intentions are good but he could not convert his unique storyline into an engaging film with his treatment. There are many dull scenes in both halves which could have been treated in a much better manner.

The dialogues by Peddinti Ashok Kumar are good. Some of the lines will be connecting to middle-class families but the use of the Karimnagar Telangana slang is overly done at places and doesn’t look natural.

The songs by Arun Chiluveru are forgettable as none of them leave a mark while we hear them. The background score by Prince Henry is very ordinary and does not take the film to the next level.

The camera work by Praveen Vanamali & Shekar Pochampally is okay while the edit by Ch. Vamshi Krishna & Gajjala Rakshith Kumar could have been much crisper as there are so many filler scenes that could have been removed.

The production values by Starlight Studios Pvt Ltd are adequate.

What’s Hot?

* Chaitanya Rao & Bhoomi Shetty’s Performances
* Few Good Comedy Scenes
* Pelli Choopulu Scene
* Good Social Message

What’s Not?

* Weak Narrative & Treatment
* Dragged Out Screenplay
* Unwanted Sub Plots
* Poor Casting Of Supporting Actors
* Ordinary Presentation
* Dull Background Score
* Forgettable Songs

Verdict: Overall Sharathulu Varthisthai is a below-average social drama that had its heart in the right place, but the narrative and the treatment never impress. Though it is targeted at middle-class families with a decent message, the terms and conditions are unclear.
