Movie Calling Sahasra
Star Cast Sudigali Sudheer, Dollysha
Director Arun Vikkirala
Music Mohith Rahmaniac
Run Time 2h 23m
Release 1 Dec, 2023

Sudigali Sudheer is a household name in the Telugu states, thanks to his successful stint on the small screen. He made his movie debut as a leading man several years ago and has now come up with a new movie called Calling Sahasra. The film features Dollysha and Spandana Palli as the leading ladies, and let us see how the film has turned out to be.

Story:

Ajay is a simple man who takes a new sim card, which turns out to be the turning point of his life. He keeps getting a lot of calls from various people, all of whom ask for a girl called Sahasra. As Ajay starts finding out who this Sahasra is, he is exposed to a lot more at play. What are all those things, and does he finally manage to find Sahasra forms the rest of the story.

On-Screen performances:

Sudheer is seen in a role that he hasn’t done before in his career. In most of the movies that he’s been seen in so far, he was seen in a very light-hearted role, leaning more into comedy than serious roles. In Calling Sahasra, he can be seen in a serious role, taking on the job of finding out the secret behind Sahasra. He also gets to indulge in a few action scenes in the movie, and it is refreshing to see him in a new kind of role. He does well with what he’s been given and tries his best to break out of the kind of roles that the audiences have seen him in, so far. On the whole, Sudheer has given a good performance.

Dollysha and Spandana Palli do not have a lot to do in the film, but manage to look good on the screen. Shiva Balaji can be seen in an important role in the film, and he’s alright in what he’s been given.

The remaining supporting actors are alright in the film. However, the performance of the villain can be said to be one of the weakest points of the film.

Off-Screen Talents:

The director of the film. Arun Vikkirala, who has also written the script of the film, has come up with an interesting concept, which has not before been attempted in any Telugu film. He has also come up with some good twists throughout the movie. While all this is good, it is the execution of his ideas that has gone bad. The execution of his twists and his overall film is a major drawback, with several scenes coming off as artificial and hard to believe, and some scenes feeling like they are dragging beyond necessity. The way the director extracted performances from his actors also isn’t up to the mark, which is another negative point for the film. Another minus for the film is the fact that the climax of the film feels drawn out and undercooked.

The background music, by Mark K Robin is good in parts, and very derivative in others. It does help in elevating the scenes, but one can’t help but feel like they heard that music elsewhere previously. The songs of the film feel completely forgettable and unnecessary.

The cinematography of the film is decent, and the production values look good. The editing is okay.

Plus Points:

  • Sudheer’s performance
  • Some twists

Minus Points:

  • Overall Execution
  • Screenplay
  • Climax

Verdict: Calling Sahasra is a good concept that seems to have been lost in execution. With a wide variety of films to choose from this weekend, this film can be safely skipped.
